Mobile Web all Mashed Up!

Just finished reading an article by Barbara Little at Little Springs Design titled: What’s wrong with the mobile web? (part 1) >> Barbara goes onto say that:

Even in this future, the browser has to be re-engineered. Mashups should be buildable on the fly. Voice and camera input should be built in. And a whole mishmash of usability improvements need to be made.

I think those a are great ideas but before that is addressed there needs to be the issue of usability which at the moment with the larger amount of carriers is at a all-time low. Speed is still an issue for the mobile web and though browsers such as Opera have increased surfing experience and response time there is still much to be done.

Mobile Commerce Convenience in Japan

Interesting article over at cnet on the rise of mobile commerce in Japan >> The article states that:

Last year, the number of people using mobiles for internet access exceeded personal computer users in Japan. According to government data, 80 per cent of e-commerce by teenagers aged 15-19 was done on mobiles in 2005.

I don’t think the West are going to be far behind in these figures. As soon as the next generation of mobile devices are released that should be easier to use on the mobile web and sites that are becoming mobile wev ready we will start shopping via mobile phones. I still think areas such as security needs to be looked at as this will be a main concern for consumers.
